Death register extract

The death register extract (formerly: ‘Copy from the register of deaths’) contains data on the deceased and the surviving spouse or registered partner.

Voraussetzungen

To prevent third parties from freely accessing your data, the right to a death register extract is limited to a specific group of people.

The following people can request a death register extract, provided that this is not precluded by any overriding interests worthy of protection in respect of the persons to whom the registration relates:

  • Spouse, registered partner, ancestors and descendants of the deceased
  • Persons who establish a legal interest in doing so

The Austrian diplomatic representations abroad if the death is recorded in the Central Civil Status Register.

Verfahrensablauf

The death register extract is generally issued immediately if applied for in person. It can also be applied for in writing.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

Kosten

For the application

  • Verbally: no fee
  • In writing: EUR 21

For the issue of a death register extract

  • Federal administration fee: EUR 11
  • Federal administrative levy: EUR 2.10

There are generally additional costs for sending the death register extract. Please enquire about this at the competent registry office.

There are no costs for issuing an electronic register extract via ID-Austria.
